Performance Management Can Be A Daunting Task

Performance management can sometimes become a daunting part of a business owner or manager’s responsibilities.  It must be done though at the cost of poor quality of service or product. Having managed mostly services my preference is to follow these steps:

1. Collaboratively develop standards for the service that easily represent expectations to the employee or service provider.
2. Review standards on a regular basis.
3. Conduct initial mock observations and review results with employee or service provider.
4. Implement regular observations and a feedback loop after I am comfortable with the employee or service provider’s understanding of standards.

This method has served me well in the past and I hope it is helpful to you too!
